LOTS of Fabric {Flower} Garland & Corsages!!

I'm going to be an auntie in April!!
For my soon-to-be niece's baby shower, her mommy & I got to work on some much needed decorations and favors for the "Baby is Blooming" baby shower next month.
For this theme, there will be lots of color and flowers! We came up with an idea to create 2 garlands made up of fabric flowers and for the favors, give out fabric flower corsages! {So cute}
The favors are an inspiration from this photo:

We started off going to get a bunch of different fabrics in lots of colors as well as different buttons (we also used some vintage buttons that have been saved). Afterwards, we (mommy-to-be, a friend of ours (another mommy-to-be), & I) gathered around on my living room floor and started cutting, folding, shaping, & gluing! Here's what we came up with!
We made 63 of these little beauties!
10 for each garland (2 garlands) & 43 flower corsages.

Although, it took us all day (with the help of some pizza, wings, smoothies, & pasta) they came out so cute & we are very happy with them!
:D
Next on the list,
LOTS and LOTS of tissue pom poms! :)

PINK ruffled flower skirt!

A few weeks ago I had went down to the LA fabric district to find the perfect fabric for the perfect skirt for a little girl. I had found what I was looking for and after about 14+ hours of sewing, hand stitching, ruffling, and measuring-I have FINALLY finished the adorable PINK ruffled skirt!! :)
Here it is in all it's girliness!!
I attached a pink bow to the top of the skirt with a pin so that it could be moved and added where desired :)
Notice the silver shimmer within the pink :) My favorite!
I spent a lot of time on this skirt. I thought, "if I was still a little girl, how would I want my skirt to look like?" After several hours, I completed it and couldn't be happier with it! :)
Needless to say though, I am now taking a break from the sewing machine for a while and I'm going to just work on hairpieces for my new line coming out soon! :)
Also, in October, I will be a part of the 14th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair in Helendale, California which is expecting over 1,000 people to show. This also means I need to start creating lots more pieces...busy-busy but I love it all! :D Have a beautiful day!!

LA Fabric District Finds :)

On Saturday morning of June 18, 2011, I took a trip down to the LA fabric district with my grandma in search for some good finds...and boy did we! The first store we went into my mouth dropped and my grandma said, "Wow! We are like kids in a candy store!" There were aisles upon aisles of different trimmings (incl. lace which is my favorite!!), ribbons, appliques, buttons, jewlery, you name it!! We even got lost trying to find the restroom within all of the aisles! Here are just a FEW pictures I took looking up to the ceiling with appliques and ribbons:
We spent about 5 and a half hours in the fabric district and these are some things I brought home with me :) Enjoy!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is probably my favorite buy of the day (& most expensive...shhh)!!! It's SILK and beautiful and oh so feminine!! I was told I have expensive taste by the seller but it's gorgeous and soft...how can you not fall in love with this fabric?
I bought this ivory lace trimming with pearl strings. I use it in hairpieces :)
I bought this elastic type of lace to make little headbands with :)
I bought lots more buttons where these came from :) The majority of them were made in italy & france. I will use them for the center of flower hairpieces.
75 cents a yard for this ivory lace trimming!!
I fell in love with this vintage like lace :) & for 50 cents a yard...I was SOLD! Can you tell I'm just a bit obsessed with lace? lol
More lace ... :D
This pink floral cotton fabric and shimmery pink fabric are what I am currently making a little girls ruffled skirt out of :) It should be done in a couple more days!
I also bought lots of fabric for the nursery :) I still have another fabric I have to buy...something that's light brown but I bought the bulk of it and will start making the leaves for the tree on the wall as well as a little pillow (made with the fabric on top) and I'm sure I can find other things to make in the nursery as well with left over fabric :)
The last find of the day came when my grandma and I got lost trying to find our way home (darn LA freeways)! We were lead to an Olympic Donut shop where we gorged on some ham and cheese croissants and I also endulged on a large chocolate shake!!! YUMMM!!! It certainly was a great day!!! :D

Newest projects coming right around the corner!

After a post about our big news, it's only appropriate to follow up with my next newest projects & of course it all has to do with BABY :)
In about one more month, my husband & I will be finding out the sex of our "little jelly belly" as we have temporarily named him/her. We are so ecstatic to FINALLY know & I have already thought about how I want to decorate the nursery room (which my thoughtful husband already cleared out completely). So depending on whether it's a boy or girl, the theme, colors, paint, & little details are already set!
The biggest project in the room will be focused on the tree! On the wall where the baby's crib will go, I want to paint a big tree (just the trunk & bare branches). Everything else on the tree? Well, that's where the big projects comes in because it will take some time for me to do...if it's a boy, I am going to make several fabric leaves made from about 5 different patterns (all matching the color scheme in the room).
Sorta like these leaves on the wreath:
or these fabric leaves (I will be sewing all the way around the leaves though, not just using glue):
I will be making A LOT so it will be time consuming, yes, but well worth it when I'm done--& when I am, I will be sticking them to the branches to fill the tree and make it full & happy :)
If it is a girl, my task will be a bit harder, not only will I be making leaves for the tree, but I will also be making flowers as well to cover the branches in--& the flowers will be very detailed (shouldn't be too surprising coming from me)
So flowers like:
Martha Stewart
Diane Knott
Annekata
Since I will be making the flowers, they will come out different than the images above because I want them to be unique but at least you have an idea about what I mean :)
So, we can see how much more time consuming it will be if we have a girl but I love making flowers anyway and it just adds a lot more femininity & while I make the time the create them, I can just think about the baby :)
Also on the tree will be a birdhouse night light which my stepdad James, will be making and painting to go above the crib. Similar to this kinda:
From one of the bottom branches, I am going to make a bunting banner (from fabric as well, with other materials). It will have the baby's name on it and one end will look like it's tied to a tree branch, & the other will look like a little birdie is holding it in it's mouth (the bird will be painted)
Banners sorta like these (different themes, patterns and colors depending on our babys gender)
Tutu Crafts Etsy Shop
Victorian Station Etsy Shop
Anyway, that's my next BIG project so far which will be started as soon as we hear the news about what we are having. So, posts about my progress will soon arrive as well as the other projects I will later be taking on in the nursery {with the help of my wonderful husband of course! :) }
Have a beautiful tuesday everyone!
